The eFly SWD Working Group has summarized their 2013 assessment of spotted wing drosophila (SWD) impacts in the eastern US. Key findings include over $26 million in crop loss in reporting states, over $1.3 million dollars in increased pesticide use by responding growers, and an average of 87% increase in pesticides associated with managing SWD as compared to before this insect pest was detected.
